Global Collaboration for Climate Action: FSTP UMLA Invites MSU Malaysia Professor through Guest Lecture

Lamongan - The Faculty of Science, Technology and Education (FSTP) of the University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA) held a Guest Lecture on Thursday (02/01/2025) which took place at Building A, 3rd floor, Budi Utomo Auditorium. This event was held in a hybrid manner. Incidentally, the speakers filled the lectures online via zoom, and the audience came directly to campus.

This activity was attended by 243 semester 1 students from the Bachelor of Physics, Bachelor of Biology, Bachelor of Industrial Engineering, Bachelor of Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Medical Informatics, and Bachelor of Elementary School Teacher Education study programs. This Guest Lecture invited Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Safaa Najah Saud Al-Humairi from the Management and Science University of Malaysia with the theme "Addressing Climate Change: Strategic Mitigation Efforts for a Sustainable Future". The event went successfully until the end, moderated by a lecturer of Industrial Engineering UMLA, Rohmat, S.T., M.Sc.. This event was also a success because it was fully supported by the UMLA International Affairs Office. On this occasion, the speaker delivered material about what climate change is and how to overcome it. In his introductory remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Education. Eko Handoyo, S.Kom., M.Kom conveyed this guest lecture as a means for students to learn the importance of climate change in their respective fields of science.

In delivering his material, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Safaa Najah Saud Al-Humairi Basics of climate change science, Mitigation and adaptation to climate change, Challenges and opportunities for climate change and Migration caused by climate change. Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Safaa Najah Saud Al-Humairi also said that What can be done to combat climate change? First, we must admit that climate change is everyone's problem. No institution, government, or scientist can fix it for us. We are all in this together. We are at this point because of our lifestyle and habits. This is what we can do, namely reducing emissions with energy efficiency, using public transportation, and renewable energy.

This event was also filled with an interactive question and answer session. Participants consisting of FSTP semester 1 students actively asked various questions related to our role as students in climate change mitigation efforts. This Guest Lecture activity is one of FSTP UMLA's efforts to improve the quality of student education. Through this Guest lecture, the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Education of Muhammadiyah University accommodates students to discuss issues related to climate change in particular. In addition, students are expected to be able to implement mitigation efforts that have been presented by the speaker.
